Shannon Badiee
My art delves into themes of identity, memory, conflict, loss, and death—exploring these existential topics through both personal and collective narratives. Utilizing materials such as paint, ink, paper, found materials, and fabrics to intuitively guide my process, I create works that are visually complex and invite deeper reflection. Reflective elements serve as catalysts for introspection and are representative of the multiplicity of perspectives inherent in my work.
Central to my practice is the exploration of my mixed cultural heritage, particularly my profound longing to connect with my paternal family in Iran—relatives I have never met due to political barriers. This history is deeply intertwined with broader socio-political issues like migration, identity, and cultural conflict. My art bridges these divides, drawing on ethnic symbolism to uncover hidden narratives and challenge established norms.
