Catherine C. Sherman's narrative work reimagines the symbols, textures and themes seen in the textiles we're surrounded by every day. You can find her work at galleries and museums or in the arms of collectors, on couches, beds, or sandy beaches.

"I spend hours, months and years discovering fabric. It’s my 'game of concentration with the universe' and my attempt to connect color and pattern across period and place. I exercise agency and hope by constructing pleasing - not perfect - assemblies from the fragments."
Her quilts are vessels for narrative, time in a bottle. Her ongoing series, SiGNS OF LiFE and THE HEXAGON PROJECT hold the most comprehensive collections of fabrics included in her work.

The BEYOND RED WHITE AND BLUE quilt series began in 2016. "I started tearing fabric to grieve our divided country. Those torn strips became stripes and soon I was building American flags with new colors, patterns and textures. Putting the quilt tops together allowed me to grieve and transform at the same time. It revolutionized every aspect of my art process."

Catherine is pursuing a Masters in Museum Studies at USF and volunteers with ArtSpan by serving on the SF Open Studios Committee.
