I am inspired by the passage of time. I find that on grungy walls, billboard ads, graffiti, text, vintage typography and images. Graffiti and billboards are temporary and can really only be witnessed in the moment. Blink and a new layer has covered up the previous one. Vintage books and magazines force the viewer to compare the past to the present; their messages are delivered loud and clear.
I layer up paint, paper, and text over and over to get an aged and weathered feeling. As every layer is added, a story evolves on the surface of the piece. I then choose images and text from magazines and books that continue that story. My work is a balance between decisions I make and decisions that are made for me by how the layers evolve.
